Baby Wrap for Friends

10.27.2018 Amy Matt Baby Wrap.JPG

Hello Everyone. I have mentioned before on my blog that I am not just a card maker. Well today I am sharing photos of the Baby Wrap that I crocheted and the card that I made as well.

This was made for Matt and Amy some wonderful friends of my family who are expecting their first child – a baby girl – in Nov/Dec of this year.

A close up of the wrap

It is made from a Variegated Cotton yarn for the main body of the wrap and a White Cotton Yarn for the edging. As this baby is going to be born at the beginning of our Australian Summer I wanted it to be useful both now and when it gets cooler.  The wrap is approximately 90cm squared and all done in Double Crochet stitch using a 5mm hook.

And this is also the card that I made for the baby shower.

I printed the background with a sentiment that has always been a favourite of mine. And I used an adorable elephant image from My Favorite Things Birdie Brown Adorable Elephants Stamp set and coloured him in with my Copic markers.

I had such fun making both of these. Thanks for stopping by and looking at my project today. And as always before you go I would like to leave you with this last thought

This is so true. A bond between Mother and Child is a powerful one. I am lucky to be called Mum by two wonderful humans. They will always be and will always have my love.

Have a Happy Crafty Wonderful Kind of Day,

PS If your still lucky to have your Mum around give her a call! She will love hearing from you. This is the one thing that I did more often with my own Mum especially since we live so far apart from each other.

Anniversary Rose

Hello Everyone,
This time I am back with a card project plus a bonus project.  I so wanted to get into my new card making space and see how the set up was to use. So that I wouldn’t have a total mind blank while crafting I decided to follow along with one of my favourite card challenge blogs. Color Throwdown had just put up their newest colour combo #501 and I thought that I had an image that would suit perfectly for a quick and easy card so I sat down and made this card with this combo.

Aren’t the colours for the combo wonderful. I thought that they were so peaceful and would suit being used for an Anniversary card. So I pulled out a favourite stamp set of mine “Darkroom Doors Full Bloom Vol.1” and used the rose image and stamped this onto Kraft cardstock and coloured with my pencils.  Then I cut this image out with a die from my stash and mounted it onto some grey cardstock.

The papers are by Kaisercraft from my stash so is the yellow glitter cardstock which I thought helped to tie the image a bit more into the card. I was really happy with how the card turned out and my card area does work but there is a couple of problems which I hope to sort out soon.

07 2018 Giraffe.jpgI thought that I would share with you a bonus project that I did.  This is a card that I made for a dear friend at our church who just had his birthday. The photo doesn’t do the card justice – the yellow border is stamped with a subtle but striking pattern. On the giraffe panel I first used various red, orange, yellow and brown Distress Inks to achieve the sunset type backdrop then I stamped the giraffe, leaves and grasses in black ink and coloured in the giraffe.  The scarf that the card is sitting on top of is made of a very bulky acrylic yarn and woven on my Ashford Ridge Heddle Loom. I told you that I was into different crafts!! This is just another one of them – doing different crafts helps me to do different stuff depending on what my illness will let me do that day.  Today has been walking with my Son and making 2 cards … so all in all a good day.

Thanks for taking the time to stop by my blog today. And as usual before you leave I want to leave you with this final thought:

Any day spent with a little or a lot of crafting in it is a good one. I find it relaxing and it’s like a medicine for my soul.

Have a Happy Wonderful Crafty Kind of Day,

Star Christmas

Hello Everyone,
Today I used one of my favourite ways to get my crafting on … I looked up a sketch blog to see if anything inspired me to make a card and one of them did!  This sketch comes from one of my go to sketch blogs Sketch Saturday and this is their sketch #508. I decided to make a Christmas Card because I have fallen behind with the amount of cards that I need to finish by the beginning of December.

This is what I came up with following the sketch
Chester Christmas Apr2018.jpg

And this is the sketch as posted on the blog. This time around I didn’t do anything to the sketch itself.

I was able to use up more of my “Paper From Christmases Past”.  These ones are from Kasiercraft “Twig and Berries” paper pack.  The darn cute Chester Monkey image is still available from (here) Little Miss Muffet Stamps and its Star Chester. I coloured him up with my Faber-Castell Polychromos Pencils. This time around I didn’t use my Zest-It to smooth out the image; I wanted to take advantage of the roughness of the paper to give some texture to the image.  I also used my Distress Ink to colour around the image before affixing it to the card front.

It was fun getting back behind my desk and not having my toes hurting while doing it.  So I may be able to get some more card crafting in.  But I have been doing other crafts like my Spinning.
Ashford Joy.jpg
This is a photo of me spinning on my Ashford Joy Spinning Wheel.  This wheel is very portable as you can see I am spinning while my family and I were out for the day.  I find spinning a very calming activity to do and I get to create yarn that I can then crochet or weave with.  At present I am using some of my own homespun to crochet up a scarf.  I will share a photo of this when I complete it.

As always Thank You for stopping by and looking at my project today. And before you leave I wish to leave you with this last thought
Count Your Blessings...Little Church Mouse 2015.
I know that I am guilty of this one. Many times when I am in the midst of something (not even heartache) I forget about all the blessings that God has already bestowed upon me.  I am going to try harder to remember my blessings more than my circumstances.

I wish for you a Happy Crafty Fun kind of Day,

Toe Update and What I’ve Done

Hello Everyone,
Well my imposed time away from my blogging and card making has been so much longer than any of us thought it would be. I went to the fracture clinic in February and was told that my toes were not set properly and that I would have to have surgery to fix it.  Well that happened nearly 6 weeks ago now and it didn’t work.  So I have been released from the horrid Moon Boot and am now learning how to walk again.  Don’t get me started on the Physio side of things!! But it’s not going to be a short road back.

BUT I am slowly getting back into things but I am getting into more of my usual activities.  The biggest achievement has actually been being able to drive again!!!  My Wonderful Hubby has been doing all of the driving since I broke my toes – which has included getting our Son to and from school each day.

Some lessons that I have learned over this time of forced rest

  • not to be afraid to ask for help from others. I have had to ask for various things but I still find this hard even now.  I was bought up as a very independent person, this can be both a strength and a flaw.
  • being more thankful for the little things – this actually comes from the above lesson – being able to have a shower by yourself, being able to walk long distances without having to rely on a wheelchair, being able to drive and go where I wanted to go without having to have someone take you
  • that I am more thankful for being able to do some craft – this was my sanity saver – I have been crocheting and colouring so much.
  • Don’t take anything that you enjoy for granted – you never know what could change it!!

I have also had quite a bit of alone time which I have spent reading my bible and journaling.  Oh I would have been so lost without the use of my hands and eyes.  My walk with God has deepened but also my story has been influencing others – who would have thought!! I have been surprised by the people who have told me that this journey of mine and how I have been dealing with everything has influenced them and their journey.  The journey with my foot has only been a small part of my health and life journey – this part of my journey started in August 2016! Some big stuff and some little stuff – a couple of illnesses, a couple of surgeries, death of a parent, changes in schools for DS and 2 broken toes. There is more ahead of me before I get to the end of this journey/season.  I believe that this time will end because God has promised that we will walk through seasons of life and never be in this season for ever.

Ecclesiastes 3:1 it says
To every thing there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven

Just as we have Summer, Autumn/Fall, Winter and Spring.  So my time will come to walk out of this season.  I never thought that I would write this but I am glad that I have had to walk this path. My walk with God is stronger and I feel stronger for what may be ahead of me.

And here is a photo of 1 of the projects that I have completed so far
Crochet Fluffy Scarf Feb 2018.jpg
I made this as a Random Act of Kindness project.  I didn’t know who this was going to go to when I began this scarf I just loved the yarn and I chose to make it just using just Double Crochet stitch.  When I started it I was praying while I crocheted the stitches and then as I came close to finishing the piece I was guided to whom it was to be given too.

I gave it to the lady that it was intended to be given too and she was quite touched by it.  She told me that she had been having quite a hard time with things happening in her world. Then to have someone make something “Just Because” they could was quite wonderful and helped her think that yes she could get through what was happening in her world.

Thanks for stopping by.  I truly hope to be on here more often now sharing all different kinds of crafts with you not just card making.  And as always I have to leave you with a thought for the day:
12 hilariously clever Christian Memes
My Super Hero – Jesus, the Son of my God.

I will definitely not be trying to do this life without Jesus beside me.  I am human and I will not always be perfect about this but I know how to come back to where I should be.
